HTC Celebrate ME @ Zirca
Hi guys, I’m Zane. A new addition to the Matechulous Crew. My main role here will be actually helping out with the content later on in the new website, but for now, I’ll drop a few blog posts as I’m free, or as we cover some events together with Mike and the other crews. Alright, I’m done with the introduction. Let’s proceed with the content. (:
Last week, Wednesday, 7th July, I was 1 out of the 3 Republic Polytechnic students invited to be part of the HTC Celebrate ME App showcase.
The event started off with a performance by Urban Drum Crew.
Deejays from 987FM, Mister Young and Rozz launched the HTC MeRadio application (previously only available on the iPhone), which is essentially an application that allows you to listen to all the MediaCorp radio stations over WiFi or 3G. This application is powered by RADIOactive which provides unparalleled audio clarity with amazing fidelity at the lowest bitrate. That means despite running on 3G, data incurred will be very little.
Currently, the MeRadio application is said to be only exclusive to HTC devices and you can only download it when you provide your IMEI number over here. It’s also said to only work on Android 2.1 and above devices only, but of course, I discovered that it works on Android 1.5 as well as other devices.

After that, Mister Young and Rozz went around to play some games with the audiences and people who can answer some questions would get a goodie bag. Andrew and myself, both Republic Polytechnic students Android Developers went ahead to answer a few questions and won the goodie bags.

And then there was the introduction of all the Android applications done by Republic Polytechnic facilitators (staff) and students by the Deejays as well. Applications includes SG Hotlines (Andrew Yong), SG Bill Split (Zane Lee), HelixLauncher and QuickDesk (Faruq Rasid) which are currently available in the Android Market.
The ones by the staff are SBS Next Bus, SG Traffic Cam (Jerry Lim) and the official NDP app, NDP OnTheGo 2010 (Friso Kluit).
The event ended off with HTC Country Manager, Melvin Chua giving out the celebration pack worth $1000 and a HTC Wildfire to winners of the HTC Celebrate ME! contest, which unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get any usable photos of. But fret not, I have a few good photos of the HTC Wildfire as we were handed the Wildfire to showcase our applications, which was launched at this event.
And if you’re wondering what was in the goodie bag that I got earlier on, well, it’s a HTC Bear. HTC was also giving out badges that you could customize and draw on. Below is a photo of me together with a couple of schoolmates as well as my goodies! (:
And well, that’s it. Overall, it was a very exclusive event and there wasn’t much, so I felt bored on several occasions throughout the event. I look forward to covering another event and posting here again!
